The Haven is a free, drop-in teen center serving middle and high school students in Orting. Our roots began in 2005 as Opportunity Center of Orting, Inc a nonprofit 501(c)(3), established by a local church with a heart to serve youth. Over time, leadership transitioned to long-time Orting resident Kacie Nesby, whose vision led to the opening of The Haven Teen Center in 2014. In 2016, when Kacie and her family moved out of state, community members Rick and Jennifer Slaughter stepped in to continue that vision—one centered on creating a place where teens belong and grow.

Today, Rick and Jennifer, voluntarily lead The Haven alongside their full-time careers, remaining deeply committed to the youth and families of the Orting Valley. Located within walking distance of the Orting School District, The Haven is open after school every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday until 5:30 PM. We offer a safe, welcoming environment where teens build confidence, learn life skills, form meaningful relationships, and experience positive mentorship. Beyond our teen programs, we also steward a community garden that provides fresh produce to local partners such as the Orting Senior Center and Orting Food Bank—further reflecting our commitment to being a true haven for the entire community.
